Jonckholt ruins

Fort dated from the time of the county of Loon

Image

The area offers many opportunities for activities and is a paradise for cyclists and walkers. At the back of the house are the ruins of the Jonckholt. Jonckholt was o loan from the county of Loon. Today, thanks to the archaelogical research, you can fully admire the floor plan of this medieval fortress. The foundations of the maristone walls and the robust corner towers rise almost undamaged from the marshy soil.

This site was created around 1225-50 as a digged and walled settlement with five wooden buildings on an artificial plateau in the Meersbeek valley. Here you can wander and imagine yourself as a knight or princess for a moment. With a bit of imagination you will be brought back into the Middle Ages. A beautiful walk connects this site with the castle of Groenendaal.

Alden Biesen

Image

Located about 6 km from the guesthouse lies Alden Biesen, the tourist attraction of Bilzen. Alden Biesen is a beautiful heritage site, often used as an international cultural and congress center. It was once built by the German Knighthood, and is now one of the largest castle domains in the Euregion.

You can take a trip along the Albert Canal to Maastricht, one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands. The historic center of Tongeren is a 20-minute drive from the Jonckholthuis.

Railbike

A fun experience

Image

Located within walking distance from our guesthouse lies the railbike. The trail is 6 km long and takes the railbikers from Munsterbilzen to Gellik through beautiful landscapes. The railbikes offer space for 4 adults, of which at least 2 people must cycle to move the vehicle.

A picnic is provided in Gellik. Then the bike is reversed and you cycle back to Munsterbilzen. You’re on the road for approximately 90 minutes.
